Member for Mining and Pastoral Region Jacqui Boydell MLC has welcomed a State Government announcement that three Pilbara businesses will share in more than $350,000 through the defence specific round of the Industry Facilitation and Support Program (IFSP).

Ms Boydell said Royalties for Regions has contributed $130,000 to the round and would enable recipients to up-skill and diversify their business base, including purchasing new equipment, upgrading facilities and contracting finance and marketing experts.

“The dollar-for-dollar industry assistance program will help these regional businesses to consolidate their involvement in aspects of the defence market and supply chains in major projects recently announced by the Commonwealth Government,” Ms Boydell said.

The following community organisations in the Pilbara received funding through the Program:

  • Indigo Cabinets Pty Ltd, Wedgefield - to purchase an edgebander
  • Pilbara Towing and Tilt Tray Services, Port Hedland - to purchase a super tilt tray
  • Pilbara Landscapes Pty Ltd, Port Hedland – to purchase an excavator

"As the resources sector moves from construction to operation, it is great to see a number of companies taking the opportunity to access this funding to help transition into the defence sector,” Ms Boydell said.

“This direct investment will help Pilbara businesses to ensure they are in the best position to bid for defence related contacts.”

Ms Boydell said IFSP has been an extremely successful program with the State Government’s $4.4 million investment in local industry, resulting in hundreds of millions of dollars in major contracts that have created 565 new jobs, including 66 apprenticeships.
