  • $1.7 million pipeline upgrade to water supply in Shire of Corrigin
  • 3.2km pipeline upgrade to provide a more reliable water supply

People living in the Shire of Corrigin are set to benefit from a $1.7 million State Government project to improve water supply.

Water Minister Mia Davies said the Water Corporation would start work this week to replace a 3.2 kilometre section of an above-ground pipeline that crossed a salt lake and had been damaged by salt erosion over the years.

"Burying the replacement pipe and using plastic instead of steel will stop future salt erosion, helping to prevent leaks and breaks," she said.

The below-ground pipeline will be built parallel to the existing pipeline, which is located about 13km east of Corrigin, just off Nambadilling Road.

The Minister said the current pipeline supplied scheme water to the shire, and provided water to more than 540 connections.  Water supplies would be unaffected while the pipe was replaced.

This project is in addition to the corporation's Farmlands water supply project, launched in mid-2015, which is improving the performance of the water supply system in the Wheatbelt.

"Over the next three years, the Government will invest $32 million to significantly improve the farmlands supply scheme," Ms Davies said.

"More than 64km of pipeline will be replaced and 7,500 pipeline joints will be repaired through a preventative maintenance program known as banding."
