Millions of dollars of Royalties for Regions funding has been ripped out of Roe by the McGowan Government, letting down regional communities says Member for Roe Peter Rundle.
New figures tabled in State Parliament by the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development confirm the extent of the hatchet taken to local projects.
Regional families, education, pensioners and community infrastructure has been hit hardest with funding for programmes such as the Boarding Away from Home Allowance, Community Pool Revitalisation, Community Resource Centres and the Country Age pension Fuel Card slashed by a combined $25 million.Read more
Member for Roe Peter Rundle MLA has welcomed today’s announcement by the Minister for Mines and Petroleum that the Government is in talks with parties interested in filling the gap left by the closure of Cliffs Koolyanobbing mine.
Minister Bill Johnston told Parliament that his office, together with representatives from the Premier’s Office, the Minister for Transport and the Minister for Regional Development have met with a number of parties who are either engaged in discussions with Cliffs to potentially acquire its Koolyanobbing assets, or interested in facilitating other parties using those assets.
Under questioning from Mr Rundle in Parliament yesterday, Minister for Transport Rita Saffioti failed to commit to establishing a Government taskforce similar to the one formed after the Ravensthorpe Mine closed in 2017.Read more

Member for Roe Peter Rundle MLA has expressed his concern regarding the future of workers in Esperance after Cliffs announced they would cease shipping iron ore through Esperance by the end of June.
Cliffs formally notified contractors on Monday that it would wind down its business by 30 June, which supports hundreds of jobs at the mine, along the railway and haulage route and at the Port of Esperance.
Mr Rundle said that he was concerned for the future of workers in Esperance, as they faced imminent redundancies.
Minister for Transport Rita Saffioti is failing to acknowledge the seriousness of bullying and harassment claims at Southern Ports Authority Port of Esperance after refusing to commit to visiting the town, according to Peter Rundle MLA and Hon Colin de Grussa MLA.
Member for Roe Mr Rundle questioned the Minister in Parliament last week, asking when she would visit Esperance to discuss these matters directly with distressed employees.
“I had to ask the Minister twice when she intended to visit Esperance and she refused to commit to a visit,” Mr Rundle said.Read more
Attempts to preserve the state’s three remaining timber jetties from Nationals WA Members of Parliament Peter Rundle and Vincent Catania have been hamstrung by a lack of resources being made available by the Labor Government.
Mr Rundle and Mr Catania had commenced the process for protecting the Esperance, Carnarvon and Busselton jetties through legislation, but this came to a halt after they received advice from the Parliamentary Counsel’s Office that the office was too busy giving priority to drafting Government legislation to allocate resources to this bill.

Sport and Recreation Minister Mick Murray confirmed his complete lack of respect for regional WA in Parliament yesterday, turning his back on the regional constituents he claims to represent.
Nationals WA Sport and Recreation Spokesperson Peter Rundle MLA said the Minister was unable to answer a question about how closing regional camp schools would limit access to sport and recreation opportunities – a key element of his portfolio responsibility.
“The best response the Minister was able to give to the question was that camp schools ‘were not in his area’,” Mr Rundle said.Read more
